WHY ARE WE ACTUALLY HERE?

At the end of the day, if we had to narrow it down to one simple statement then the reason we are here is TO HELP LANDLORDS. To provide them with the tools and knowledge they needed to become truly independent with their time and money.

Its why we started and it remains to this day, the reason we keep doing this. Our core motivation. And our ultimate purpose.

We all have our rental stories. You have yours - which is the reason you are viewing this site right now.

Many of these are the kinds of stories that make your hair stand on end. Tenants skipping rent from the first month already. Or the party animals.

Even worse, leases that were badly worded, had loopholes or were not legally enforceable.

Rather than simply accept the stories, we used them to inspire us to find a better way. A way for landlords to manage their own properties but with the key assistance they needed.

Like most great ideas, Rent-It-Yourself started with a problem and a desire to find a solution.

SO WHERE DID THIS START?

IS THERE REALLY A NEED?

THE SIMPLE FACT IS THAT MANY LANDLORDS WANT TO MANAGE THEIR OWN RENTALS.

Their reasons are of course varied such as :

• PRICE : Many are simply unwilling or unable to pay current agency fee rates.
• VALUE FOR MONEY : Some can simply not see the value they receive currently from their agent.
• BAD AGENTS : They went the agency route before and had a really bad agent experience.
• CAPABILITY : They have business or other experience and feel themselves as capable of running their own rentals
• TIME AVAILABILITY : Many landlords have the time to manage their own properties .

This is especially common with single second homes, garden flats etc - but of course the legal and other pitfalls are just the same as with a massive mansion or larger portfolio of properties.

Our research proved that many landlords, even those currently using agents, would actually rather manage their own rentals and in fact are more than capable of doing so.

BUT - THEY HAD FOUR MAJOR CONCERNS

• TENANT SCREENING : They were generally unsure as to whether they had chosen the right tenant or not.
• LEASE QUALITY : Some used online downloads, or got standard cut and paste from their family lawyer, and some even paid heavy fees to an attorney to draw one up - but they never felt fully assured that the lease was top notch or fully legally compliant in a fast changing property world.
• LACK OF FORMS : Landlords who managed their own properties concurred - they wish they had proper tenant application forms, inspection documents, notice of breach letters etc.
• KNOWLEDGE : Although competent enough to physically manage the rental, many express the feeling that they wished they had a bit more knowledge of the whole rental scenario

And from here our goals were set.
